Q. In need of revision rhinoplasty specialist. Willing to travel to find somebody who has a lot of experience of doing these procedures. Please can you send information on how many of these revision procedures you have done.,
A. Thank you for your inquiry. Approximately 30% of my work is secondary rhinoplasty surgery, so I have performed close to 200 procedures of this type.

Q. I really want a nose job but I have been told that I wont be able to breathe out of my nose for months and this really worries me as I breath quite heavily through my nose and am worried it will leave me feeling like I am suffocating. Is this something that is commonly asked and is any reassurances you can give me if I proceed with surgery?,
A. Thank you for your inquiry. Whilst it is true that the nose feel stuffy in the early postoperative period, most people manage to breathe reasonably well shortly after the operation. Very frequently I use silicon internal nasal splints for my patients, and this means that during the first week it is difficult to breathe through the nose all together. The splints come out after one week together with external splint, and at that point breathing becomes reasonably good.

Q. Good morning I have had rhinoplasty before abroad 5 years ago and although result was ok was only a minor improvement and i was looking for more dramatic result. Can I ask how successful usually are the nose operations to correct problems with nose asymmetry usually? My nose is not what you would call ugly but the problems with assymmetry are noticeable. Is this something you have experience of or are there certain nose surgeons who have a lot of experience and are particularly good at this procedure type of revision surgery? Jayne,
A. Thank you for your inquiry. Correction of some of the elements of asymmetry of the nose is part of the most rhinoplasty procedures. In fairness though, perfect symmetry is not achievable, because no component of the face or the body in general is truly symmetric. It is probably more accurate to say that some elements of the asymmetry may be more noticeable, and therefore worthwhile addressing. Approximately 30% of my work is secondary rhinoplasty surgery, and therefore I have accumulated experience in this area. One of important steps is inevitably good analysis of the problem and in this context computerized imaging in 2-D. or 3-D can be very valuable.

Q. I have had 4 previous rhinoplasties and I dont think I am ever going to achieve the nose I want. I am now thinking that a lot of this is now in my head and am not addicted to surgery but the desire for me to have a perfect nose is something that is taking over my life. Would I be best coming for consultation with surgeon to discuss this or am I best seeking psychiatrist help. Can you suggest anyone?,
A. Hi – I think it’s difficult to know how best to advise you without seeing you. However, at this stage I would suggest you see your GP for advice, and if your GP feels you would benefit from seeing a surgeon or a different doctor then s/he can let you know his thoughts. You are welcome to see me as well, but it might be better for a more independent opinion from your doctor in the first instance.

Q. Hello. I am considering septoplasty to correct breathing and also for deviated septum but wanted to know how long after surgery would it take me to recover. I have two small young children and am terrified that they will knock it during recover? The quicker it heals the better really and I know you cant be exact but some kind of indication would be great. Hope to hear from you soon,
A. Hi there It should take a couple of weeks to recover and most surgeons will use some kind of splint for 1-2 weeks. It is important to take things easy for the first week with no bending or lifting (you will need help with the children!). It is also important not to blow your nose during this time. Once the splint is removed you will need to be careful that it your nose is not knocked so contact sports and classes are also out for a while. Good luck!! Q. I have lots of very large open pores on my nose and would love to them removed. What would be the best kind of treatment for this and how much would it cost?,
A. Thank you for your enquiry. Large pores are a sign of excess sebum production. Firstly, do not wash your face with hot water – use cold water only. You would need to see my Skin Care specialist nurse to plan a treatment regime for you. There are no instant treatments or magic wands unfortunately! Please call Anne or Kirstie on 0845 009 2775 who will be happy to arrange your Skin Consultation. Best regards

Q. I have suffered from Rhitis for some 9 years and had a cauterisation performed on the NHS 6 years ago, which did not improve matters. I now regularly use dexa-rhinaspray duo at night which clears the blockage in minutes. However i would really like to have surgery so that i can have the feeling of clear breathing all the the time. Can you let me know if revision surgery is possible and any likely costs for doing this. Cheers,
A. Thank you for your inquiry. Since your concerns are related to functional problems rather than appearance, it may be more appropriate to discuss with an ENT specialist rather than a plastic surgeon.

Q. I have had 2 previous rhinoplasty ops to flatten and straighten a turn-up. I have never been happy with the result. Can a turn-up, ie. a correction to the tip cartilage be achieved without risk after these two ops?,
A. Thank you for your inquiry. If indeed it is still possible to do revision surgery at this stage, but I would normally advocate waiting for at least one year from your last operation before contemplating more treatment. It is possible to plan with a computer simulation that type of changes that you would like to achieve, and the clarify the type of surgery necessary to achieve them.
