Q. Hi, i have two questions. The first is that i find it very difficult to breathe through my left nostril, do you know what might be the cause of this? Also i have a slight hooked nose and was wondering what the usual procedure to correct this was. Thank you. Hettie,
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, it’s certainly would be possible to assess the inside of your nose to see what is blocking in the breathing through your left nostril. There are many options for improving this but they do depend on the cause of the obstruction to your breathing. I think it would be worthwhile scheduling a consultation with one of our specialist rhinoplasty surgeons to discuss the best way forward for you. If you feel you would like to book an appointment you can do this by ringing us on 01844-214362. All our consultations are completely free of charge and we’ll be delighted to see you to discuss the best procedure for you. Q. hi i am 24 years old and around 10 years ago i fell from a rope swing landing on my face at the time i was x rayed and the hospital said only my arm was broken however i have a clearly miss shaped nose to one side and have difficult breathing and affected speech. Although i have left it this long i am terrified of surgery but have noticed as i get older my breathing is worsening.,
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, it sounds as if you would be candidate for rhinoplasty operation and to make your nose slightly straighter and also improve your breathing. Surgery is normally very safe with advances in anesthetics and it would be very important however to discuss this in full with your surgeon and the anesthetist. Take time please have a look at our website http://aurora-clinics.co.uk to find out more information on the rhinoplasty treatments and how they could benefit you. If you feel you would like to schedule a free consultation please do so by ringing us on 01844-214362. Best Wishes, Prashant Govilkar Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Consultant, Aurora-Clinics

Q. I would like more info/advice about the septorhinoplasty procedure to fix the breathing problem I have had over the last few months. I have seen the doctor about the problem and although it may be a possability of getting it done on the NHS it all depends on how long I will have to wait for treatment.,
A. Hi there. I can certainly do a septorhinoplasty for you privately, and I can see you at my clinic at La Belle Forme for a consultation and I can book you in for treatment. If there is a particular time that suits you best, I’m sure I can fit you in if I have space available. At the moment, I have a bit of a waiting list, but I can often squeeze someone in as an extra during various days and times when I’m available for extra cases. If you want to book an appointment please feel free to email my reception desk on enquiries@labelleforme.co.uk to get the earliest date sent to you. If that’s not suitable, my reception staff can ask me if I have any spare capacity for extra cases.

Q. Im thinking of having septorhinoplasty for my breathing difficulties. my main concern is the shape it will leave my nose and if it will make the breatyhing issue worse. Is it common to have complications for this type of surgery?,
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, actually a septorhinoplasty often helps your breathing as the septum itself can cause blockage of the nasal passages. I think it would be worthwhile discussing your concerns fully with your surgeon at your consultation. They will be able to assess the inside of your nose and the nasal passages and give you an opinion as to whether surgery would alter your breathing pattern. Many thanks for your enquiry, I wish you the best of luck if you do decide to go ahead with surgery. Q. I was attacked a few years ago and my nose was broken and since then my breathing has deteriorated and I suffer from asmtha. I asked my GP if I could have this corrected on the NHS and he laughed at me and said no chance without even looking at me. I am not in a position to pay to have it done privately I would appreciate any advice.,
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, fractures of the nose can certainly affect breathing by narrowing the air passages through which the air comes in. If you are having problems breathing it would be best to perhaps see another GP who could refer you to an ENT surgeon who could examine the inside of your ear and give you advice about the best possible treatment for you. Many thanks for your enquiry and I do wish you the best of luck if you do decide to go ahead with your consultation and possible treatment. Q. Im having problem breathing since breaking my nose and have looked into turbinate reduction. I see that it’s often done with the septoplasty – are they always done together? Would I need both to help my breathing?,
A. The septum under the nose down would be which is on a septo-rhinoplasty, this would help more to your breathing as well as the cosmetic appearance of your nose. Best Wishes, Yours sincerely Prashant Govilkar Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Consultant, Aurora Clinics

Q. I am interested in finding a reputable doctor to fix my nose. I have suffered for a long time with continous sinusitus and have been managing by using nasel strips but I have no wish to wear them in public. What can be done to help me with my breathing issue?,
A. From your symptoms you seemed to be having symptoms related to possibly deformism of septum, you need to see a plastic surgeon specially inclined in rhinoplasty and septo-rhinoplasty or a European surgeon who specializes in nasal surgery. You can get this information from the website of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons or the previous association of EMP surgeons.
