A. Thank you for your enquiry. Normally, there is not much pain following a rhinoplasty – most of my patient take painkillers for only 1 or 2 days. You should be able to return to work / social activities after 10 to 14 days. Your nose is well healed by about 6 weeks but goes on improving for up to 9 months. A. Thank you for your enquiry. What you describe is a reduction rhinoplasty which requires a general anaesthetic usually as a day stay. The operation takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. This type of surgery involves quite complex reconstructive techniques with a success rate of around 80%. 10 to 15% of patients need secondary surgery to improve the result further. Which type of alar base reduction reduces the width of the nostrils?

Q. Which type of alar base reduction reduces the width of the nostrils? I have wide nostrils which also flare a little. Do you recommend weir incision, a wedge resection or both? If i were to get both procedures at once under local anesthesia, would the cost be the same as if i were to get, say, weir incision alone? Many thanks.,

A. Thank you for your enquiry. Surgery to correct the flared nostrils is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a out patient procedure. No hospital stay is requried. The scars will be in the groove between the nostril and the cheek – so usually very inconspicious. I have had two Septo-rhinoplasty operations in the past few years for breathing problems

Q. I have had two Septo-rhinoplasty operations in the past few years for breathing problems which have left my nose miss-shapen, one nostril has collapsed. My breathing is 10 times worse now than before i started this and my nose now look hideous. What I was looking for was somebody who has experience of fixing these kind of specific problems as I do not think I could have any more surgery after this one and am hoping to find somebody who can give me my life back. I broke my nose when playing rugby 2 years ago

Q. I broke my nose when playing rugby 2 years ago, is it possible to fix it now even though the damage was done a while ago? The bridge is very mis-shapen and bent, also I cant breathe properly through 1 nostril, how will you fix that?,

A. Thank you for your enquiry. The damage to your nose can be repaired at any time. The breathing problem you describe is caused by deviation of the septum which will have happened at the time of the injury. This is caused by a fracture of the septum which is dealt with by removing part of th edamaged septum and correcting the deviation to ensure that the airways are clear.
