Q. Hello, I am 17 years old and last year I had a closed rhinoplasty operation on my nose with the NHS following trauma to the nose 5 years prior to the operation. The accident involving my nose made it arc outwards and there was a visible bump in it. The operation reduced the size of the bump very slightly and is still no where near what it looked like before the accident. The surgeon said to give it time but after a year I am still not convinced as it is not getting any smaller. What do you suggest I do?,

Q. I had a Revision Rhinoplasty done July 2010 and ever since it feels as if my lower cheek area has dropped. I had a small bump removed and also some work done at the bottom of the nose, the area between the nostrils. It is making me very unhappy and I really don’t know what to do about it. Is it possible that facial muscles can have been damaged or weakened during the operation and could this have caused my face to drop? If this is the case, can it be repaired?,

Q. Dear Mr Lucian Ion, I have had a rinoplasty before, and was pleased with the bridge of my nose, but unfortunately not with my nasal tip or my nostrils, as they turned up and became enlarged. I have paid £4000 already so do not need a full rhinoplasty, but would like surgery still, perhaps on the nose tip and definately my nostrils, if this is possible. A. Thank you for your enquiry. From your description, I’m assuming that the cartilage that supports the nostrils has been removed somewhat excessively, and support to the nostril rim will need to be restored. The degree of contouring for the tip of the nose is best determined in a consultation using computer imaging and planning, which will lead to clarity on what you want to achieve with further surgery. I do have a different fee for nasal tip rhinoplasty as opposed to full-scale rhinoplasty, but I’m afraid it is relatively similar to the charge that you have already met for your surgery. Q. My nose overprojects, and is too long for my face this is despite having rhinoplasty surgery 2 years ago. Would revision surgery help me.,

I would suggest discussing this in a consultation using computer imaging either on standard photographs or 3D, in order better evaluate what it is you would consider to be a good result for you. Sometimes, the surgery leads to an elegant shape of the nose, but for the patient the proportions with the rest of the face are not right, and this is where I believe computer imaging can help clarify what would be the ideal outcome for the intervention, and whether it is indeed feasible. Without any doubt, the outcome of surgery is always somewhat different from the simulation, but I feel that when the plan is accurate the chance of success is improved.
