Q. Im having real issue with snoring. Ive tried several things and also had an appointment with my GP but nothing has worked and he has suggested that surgery could be a possible option for a resolve to the situation as it may be an issue with my nasel septum. Im happy with the size and shape of my nose I dont want it to look any different. Could this be possble without chaging the shape of my nose?,
A. Absolutely. It sound as though you do not need to have a rhinoplasty but functional surgery with an ENT specialist Good luck Paul Banwell www.skininstituteuk.com

Q. My nose has been through a lot of stress as it was broken as child and fixed twice then a few years after suffered valve collapase. During a visit to the doctors I told him about some breathing issues I had been having and he advise I MAY have a septum which deviates to the left but he cannot be sure as he is not a nose surgeon and suggested me seeing one. My nose is slightly bent and I wondered if more surgery would be a good idea to an already fragile nose. From information I have read the more surgery I have on the nose the more likely the complications after each procedure. Im very concerned about the breathing problem but I am prepared to puit up with it if it means I am not putting my nose in harms way once more. Thanks for any help you can offer. Pamela,
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry. I really would suggest that you see a nose surgeon and in fact an ENT surgeon would be the best person to advise you. The ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeons specialize in breathing problems inside the nose and would be able to examine your nose internally to see what is causing the breathing problem. They also have a lot of expertise with reshaping the nose, which may be appropriate in your case. I wish you the best of luck with your consultation. I’m sure they’ll be able to help you decide the best way forward for you. Best Wishes, Yours sincerely Prashant Govilkar Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Consultant, Aurora Clinics

Q. I have some difficulty breathing through one of my nostrils and think this may be due to a deviated septum. I also have a ‘bump’ on the top of my nose and was wondering what procedure I would need if I wanted to tackle both of these issues at the same time and how much this would cost.,
A. It sounds like you’d need a humpreduction, with infracture and a septal correction, ie a septorhinoplasty Best wishes Barbara see www.barbarajemec.com for information on procedures, prices and consultations

Q. Hi. I have had two Septo-rhinoplasty operations in the past few years for breathing problems which have left my nose miss-shapen, one nostril has collapsed. My breathing is 10 times worse now than before I started this and my nose now look hideous. What I was looking for was somebody who has experience of fixing these kind of specific problems as I do not think I could have any more surgery after this one and am hoping to find somebody who can give me my life back. Hope to hear you views soon.,
A. Thank you for your email. I am sorry to hear about your problems. I have following suggestions to help you further: 1) Please send me good quality photos for my initial comments. 2) You may wish to arrange a detailed consultation to allow me to examine you and give my opinion. 3) Please visit our website: www.vadodariaplasticsurgery.com (section of rhinoplasty, photo gallery and price guide) to allow you to develop better insight into the procedure. Please contact my office on 0208 997 3976 between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm or by email on info@vadodariaplasticsurgery.com for further guidance.4)It is a good idea to discuss your issues with the surgeon who performed your previous operations. 5) You may wish to discuss your breathing difficulties with your G.P and he can refer you for further management within NHS hence you do not need to pay for your treatment. Q. I have had closed rhinoplasty done over a year ago, and I am unhappy. My nose is fine at the top but tilts at the bottom where the septum is, the surgeon on my return said that he would not try and help any further as i had it done on NHS. It is affecting my life greatly I avoid smiling, eye contact and photographs, plus I spend on average about a few hours a day looking in the mirror wondering what to do. I realise this is a ridiculous but im desperate. With things like Facebook around I find it increasing harder for me to cope. Plus I constantly have breathing problems please can you advise me on this. Thank you,
A. Hi and sorry to hear about your problems. If you’re getting nowhere with a rhinoplasty that was performed on the NHS, then perhaps you could ask your GP to refer you to a different NHS surgeon for a second opinion. It’s important to find a surgeon you trust and believe to be able to give you the results you want and sometimes you can have this on the NHS, and sometimes you have to pay for it.

Q. Dear Sir. Following an accident when I fell over and hit the pavement my nose broke but I did not seek any treatment from a doctor. Since then I have struggled to breathe out of one of my nostrils, as I think my nose set funny after the accident. I have just put up with it though it is uncomfortable and it makes my mouth really dry breathing through my mouth. It now seems to constantly sound like I have a cold and is getting worse. Is there any surgery that is going to fix this and what is recovery going to be like ie pain , breathing, bandages etc. Sorry for so many questions. Thanks,
A. Hello there thank you for your email You sound as though you have classical breathing problems following a traumatic injury with a nasal fracture. In actual fact, depending upon where you live, you may be eligible for NHS treatment. This would legitimately be a operation for functional reasons (ie. breathing problems) and not cosmetic (ie. appearance reasons). If this is unsuccessful please do give Kim a call on 01342 330302 or email help@paulebanwell.com take care Paul Banwell www.paulebanwell.com

Q. I broke my nose when playing rugby 2 years ago, is it possible to fix it now even though the damage was done a while ago? The bridge is very mis-shapen and bent, also I cant breathe properly through 1 nostril, how will you fix that?,
A. Thank you for your enquiry. The damage to your nose can be repaired at any time. The breathing problem you describe is caused by deviation of the septum which will have happened at the time of the injury. This is caused by a fracture of the septum which is dealt with by removing part of th edamaged septum and correcting the deviation to ensure that the airways are clear. This surgery is called a septorhinoplasty which is perfromed under a general anaesthetic as a day case. Please call Anne or Kirstie on 0845 009 2775 who will be happy to assist you further.
