Q. Hi, I am thinking about rhinoplasty as i have been self concious about my nose for years. From the front my nose looks quite normal but from a side view the shape of my nostrils make my nose look very sharp looking and the tip is also quite pointy. I have also noticed that my nose is not symmetrical as when i look up i can see that one nostril is a bit larger than the other one and i have quite a defined crease running down the middle of my nose starting from the tip. I would just like a softer looking more symmetrical nose. As my nearest cosmetic surgery clinic is two hours away i was just looking for some advice online first, do you think that rhinoplasty would work for me from the description i have given? Thankyou.,
A. Thank you for your enquiry. As far as I understand from your comments, you are looking for a procedure that would be softening somewhat the contours of the nose, and improve the symmetry. I wouldn’t like to point out that perfect symmetry is not achievable through surgery, because there are too many elements of the facial contours that are asymmetric in everybody. In terms of a softer, general appearance of the nose, it is indeed possible to achieve it, and I would recommend a discussion in consultation based on computer imaging, possibly in 3-D.
