Q. I am 13 years old and I broke my nose last year, what is the minimum age I would be able to undergo rhinoplasty surgery with parental consent?,

 

A. Thank you for your enquiry. In general terms and, I preferred to undertake rhinoplasty after the age of 18, when the facial features enter a somewhat slower phase in development. In the context of post-traumatic changes, in particular if quite significant, I would be happy to evaluate the situation from around the age of 17, so the nasal development is relatively complete.

Q. Dear Sir. Id really like to find a soluition to my snoring problems. This is causing great problems at home and I although I have sort help from the doctor and he has assisted me in the short term he said the best solution would be to see a plastic surgeon.,

 

A. Thank you for your enquiry. Snoring is more frequently dealt with by ENT surgeons. I would recommend Mr William Grant, who is based at the Cromwell Hospital in London, on the basis that I am familiar with his work. I’m convinced there are many specialists across the UK who can deliver high-quality services, but being a plastic surgeon I’m not so familiar with the ENT group of specialists. Plastic surgeons can contribute improvement in some instances of snoring, by means of septo-rhinoplasty interventions, if the cause of snoring is primarily an event related obstructed nasal airway.

Q. Can you give a 12 year old a rhinoplasty,

 

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, normally we do not perform rhinoplasty on people who are 12 as the nose is not fully formed at that stage. There any exception to this is on some occasions such as after a cleft lip when the nose is affected surgery is sometimes performed in the earlier stage. We tend to tell people to wait atleast 18 years of age before considering rhinoplasty as this is the stage when the nose is fully formed. Q. I live in the UK and went on holiday to Turkey. I hurt my nose in a Turkish bath and required surgery. I went for a private clinic in Istanbul the surgeon was recognized within their country as i did not have time to research for a rhinoplasty expert elsewhere. I am very concerned with with his work, my nose is fixed but i think by nose is to big from the nostril area, bridge area is wider and from the tip of my nose to the beginning of the nostrils seems to long. what signs do i need to look for? how do i check if he has done a good job? how can i get a another surgeons opinion? please help?,

 

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, if the surgery is being performed relatively recently it would be important to give it time to settle down as the area must still be swollen. However, if once the swelling has gone down you’re still unhappy with the appearance of the nose I think it would certainly be worthwhile having a second opinion from a specialist rhinoplasty surgeon. Q. I would liek to have a consultation so you can examin my broken nose. I hacve a great deal of trouble beathing through it at times and I must get something done about it. My doctor has made it clear there will be little done for me on the NHS anytime in the future.,

 

A. Thank you very much for your email, it is certainly possible to improve your breathing and this often done by straightening the internal structures of your nose widening your breathing passages. If you are having trouble breathing your doctor would normally be able to refer you to an ear, nose and throat specialist on the NHS. I think it maybe worthwhile talking to your GP again and see if this is possible if not, it will be worth looking for a ENT specialist locally to schedule an appointment to discuss the best way forward for you. Q. I play rugby and last year i broke my nose, after ten days approximatly i had surgery, this was in september the surgery was very nice, no brusises at all, the recovery went very well, but i would like to play rugby again, the doctor told me that now I can play rugby, but the thing is that the tip of my nose is hard, y can move the tip to the sides, but not push it to me, I don´t know if you understand me, but the thing is that i am afraid that if someone hits it it will break again,so when is the tip of the nose getting soft again?, that is the main question,
