I had a rhinoplasty op done with the NHS 8 years ago

Q. Hi. I had a rhinoplasty op done with the NHS 8years ago, it seem to help with my breathing at the time, but for the last year I’ve been having difficulty breathing and impaired vision due to my noses shape, since the op 8 years ago I’ve had no impact on the nose, it just seems to have got worse over the year, blocked nose, breathing, and Im a keen runner and I feel I’m not getting the best with my breathing, I saw a specialist about 5 years ago in Germany he was happy with doing an op with mention of removing gristle from my ear to my nose if that makes sense, I serve in the British army and I was based in Germany when I saw the specialist, but I got posted back to the uk and nothing was done, the past few months have been the worst yet, I have not informed my gp yet, but do intend to in feb when I’m off a career course I’m on at the moment, your advice is much needed, Many thanks Mick,

A. go to your GP when you get back and get a referral to your local surgeon to restart the process cheerio

Is there any chance i could get rhinoplasty by the NHS?

Q. Is there any chance i could get rhinoplasty by the NHS? I am 15 years old and have a large nose with a bump that is visible just by looking at my nose as it sticks out. Where the bump is always a red/pink colour and i am very conscious of it. The slightest knock to my nose i am in agony with it and my nose can be blocked a lot at night is there any chance of surgery?,

A. not for cosmetic reasons I am afraid If you have functional problems you can have this corrected but it will not affect the shape

I have suffered from Rhitis for some 9 years and had a cauterisation performed on the NHS 6 years ago

Q. I have suffered from Rhitis for some 9 years and had a cauterisation performed on the NHS 6 years ago, which did not improve matters. I now regularly use dexa-rhinaspray duo at night which clears the blockage in minutes. However i would really like to have surgery so that i can have the feeling of clear breathing all the the time. Can you let me know if revision surgery is possible and any likely costs for doing this. Cheers,

A. Thank you for your inquiry. Since your concerns are related to functional problems rather than appearance, it may be more appropriate to discuss with an ENT specialist rather than a plastic surgeon.

How much will a nose reduction job cost a teenager, if the GP wirtes to the hospital?

Q. How much will a nose reduction job cost a teenager, if the GP wirtes to the hospital?,

A. The cost of nose surgery for teenagers is exactly the same as for a normal person but sometimes it’s worthwhile going to your GP if you would like it done in the NHS because sometimes the surgery can be performed on the NHS with a GP letter, however, if your GP write to us we will be happy to see you to discuss the best way forward but unfortunately if it is not to be covered by the NHS. Best Wishes, Yours sincerely Prashant Govilkar Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Consultant, Aurora Clinics

I recently discovered that the bone on my nose is protruding outwards and can be seen underneath my skin

Q. My nose has been broken since I was 7 years old, when a football hit it real hard, although it left a bump on my nose, I recently discovered that the bone on my nose is protruding outwards and can be seen underneath my skin, also the bump on my nose is always pink, and Im usually having problems breathing, especially at night, althought I DO NOT suffer from Sleep Apnoea. I usually wake up with a blocked nose, its so annoying!. I just wanted to know, with symptoms such as these, what would the rhinoplasty surgery involve. Will there be any wires inserted up my nose? Also, as I am a student, and cannot afford this surgery on my own, is there any way I could undergo this surgery on the NHS? I look forward to hearing from you, Thank you for your help.,

A. Thank you for your inquiry. Your specific problem should be suitable for treatment through the NHS. You would need to ask your GP for the appropriate referral. Surgery typically involves straightening the septum inside the nose as well as the outer structures. There is no need for wires to be inserted.

I have had a Rhinoplasty on the NHS about 10 years ago but I am dis satisfied

Q. Hi, I have been researching since March and I have yet to decide on a surgeon and clinic to have the procedure. I have had a Rhinoplasty on the NHS about 10 years ago but I am dis satisfied with the results. I have decided that I do definately want this and have come up with a short list. I wanted to know what are waiting times for surgery and consultation and does the cost include revision surgery if it is needed? Thanks for your reply,

A. Hi – for revision rhinoplasty there is less of a guarantee of what your results are going to be, as the unpredictability of scarring and swelling from previous surgery is greater. Nevertheless, if you came to see me I would want to discuss things with you in detail first. I would hope to be able to tell you what I could achieve and would hope you would tell me what you were willing to accept and what you were not willing to accept. My waiting time is a week or two for a consultation and a month or two for surgery. I hope this information is helpful.
