I hurt my nose in a Turkish bath and required surgery

Q. I live in the UK and went on holiday to Turkey. I hurt my nose in a Turkish bath and required surgery. I went for a private clinic in Istanbul the surgeon was recognized within their country as i did not have time to research for a rhinoplasty expert elsewhere. I am very concerned with with his work, my nose is fixed but i think by nose is to big from the nostril area, bridge area is wider and from the tip of my nose to the beginning of the nostrils seems to long. what signs do i need to look for? how do i check if he has done a good job? how can i get a another surgeons opinion? please help?,

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, if the surgery is being performed relatively recently it would be important to give it time to settle down as the area must still be swollen. However, if once the swelling has gone down you’re still unhappy with the appearance of the nose I think it would certainly be worthwhile having a second opinion from a specialist rhinoplasty surgeon. You can arrange this by ringing us on 01844-214362 or alternatively emailing us at info@aurora-clinics.co.uk. In the mean time, I think it might be worthwhile having a look at our website http://aurora-clinics.co.uk which has lots of information about rhinoplasty surgery. Many thanks for your enquiry, I do wish you the best of luck. Best Wishes, Yours sincerely Prashant Govilkar Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Consultant, Aurora Clinics

My nose has a very fat tip and it is like a light bulb at the end

Q. My nose has a very fat tip and it is like a light bulb at the end. would i beabe to get this done non surgically?,

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, it does sounds as if you may benefit from a rhinoplasty operation. Your case sounds as if you may need to have building up of the bridge of the nose to give you a more prominent profile and also redefining of the tip of your nose by modifying the cartilages in this area. It is sometimes possible to build-up the bridge of the nose with non-surgical dermal filler treatment but in order to assess whether this would be appropriate for you it would really be best to see you in clinic in person for one of our surgeons to assess the region. If you feel you would like to schedule a consultation please do so by ringing us on 01844-214362. Many thanks for your enquiry, we do look forward to meeting you in the near future should you decide to schedule a free consultation. I get that everyone is different when it comes to recovery from surgery but I just want to get an idea of how long does bruising last after having rhinoplasty surgery?

Q. I get that everyone is different when it comes to recovery from surgery but I just want to get an idea of how long does bruising last after having rhinoplasty surgery?,

A. Thank you for your enquiry. Most of the time, the bruising of the bruising from rhinoplasty surgery tends to clear in 7-10 days.

I am looking at having revision surgery and have consulted with 2 surgeons so far

Q. I am looking at having revision surgery and have consulted with 2 surgeons so far. As far as the 2 surgeons go they were ok but their fees were overly cheap, which concerns me. I know I should not choose a surgeon based on their fees but im not exactly flushed at the moment either. The revison surgery I need is just on the nose tip and I wanted to know where I can view any previous work and your prices plase.,

A. Revision rhinoplasty surgery is very unique, so although I can show you pictures of some of my patients who have had rhinoplasties before, I probably don’t have a picture of a revision that would be similar to your nose. Nevertheless I can show you examples of some of my work but beyond that, if you’re looking for a particular outcome or several before and after photos for me to show you, that may not be possible. For revision work, it’s a lot harder to do, as well, as there’s more scarring and a greater degree of unpredictability in the final results. My prices are fixed and they’re on line at http://www.labelleforme.co.uk/cosmetic_surgery_prices.html. I think you are right to proceed with caution, but at some point you may have to decide what you think about all your consultations and go with the surgeon you feel most comfortable with.

I am a police officer and would like Rhinoplasty.

Q. I am a police officer and would like Rhinoplasty. The most time i could get off work for recovery is 3 weeks. Due to the nature of my job it is possible that my nose would get knocked or that i would have to physically exert myself on returing to work. What would be the risks of this?,

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry. It is possible to perform a rhinoplasty procedure and have you back to work within 3 weeks. Normally, the supportive plaster on your nose will be in place for a week following the surgery and in the following 2 weeks, the swelling and bruising would be mostly settled. It would be important to protect your nose while it is still relatively fragile from any trauma. It is possible that if you did sustain a blow to your nose within a few months of that surgery, the effects of the surgery could be altered. I wonder if will be possible for you to return to slightly lighter duties for a month or so once you return to work. I hope information has been useful and please feel free to have a look on our website http://aurora-clinics.co.uk if you would like any more information about rhinoplasty surgery. If following this you would like to schedule a consultation to discuss the best way forward for you, please ring us on 01844-214362 or email us at info@aurora-clinics.co.uk. Is there an ideal age to have the rhinoplasty operation from a recovery and results view

Q. Is there an ideal age to have the rhinoplasty operation from a recovery and results view. Im 19 years old and have never liked my nose but im concerned having this surgery at an early age means it will need be revised as I get older as my nose and facal features change. Could you plerase give me your opinion?,

A. your nose never stops growing, so you’re right in that some people have more than one operation to change the shape of their nose when they have it at a young age, but equally, we do operations on people’s noses at a relatively young age and not everyone will have another operation

I would like to have an operation on my nose to fix a diverted septum but I had planned to have surgery done before flying to the US

Q. I would like to have an operation on my nose to fix a diverted septum but I had planned to have surgery done before flying to the US for a month on business as I work within the fashion industry. Can you tell me how long after surgery I would be able to fly without any risks? The flight is likely to be to L.A first and I believe this could take up to 10 hours to reach my destination. The trip is in mid November so I hope this is plenty of time to sort this out.,

A. After any surgery you’re at risk of blood clots in the legs that can move into the lungs, and your blood is said to be more sticky and likely to clot for around 6 weeks after an operation. There are, for example, risks of infection and bleeding that are most likely to occur within the first couple of weeks. Bruising takes a few weeks to improve, with the last of the swelling dissipating after a year or so. In an aircraft your nose can feel dry after surgery, as the air in airplanes is at a reduced atmospheric pressure. These are some of the things that you may feel after a rhinoplasty operation for a while after the surgery. It depends how much you’re having done and how much swelling you will have as to how long it will take for these to be a significant aspect of your flight
