Revision Rhinoplasty
There are a number of different kinds of Rhinoplasty procedures out there, but only one that you would ideally want to avoid. This would be Revision Rhinoplasty, wherein patients meet with their surgeons to fix their botched up procedure. It is becoming a much more sought after option, with many patients unhappy with the results of their primary rhinoplasty. Since one cannot predict the outcome of the nose reshaping surgery, it is important to understand what the different options are when you are not happy with the outcome of the surgery. The procedure has a couple of risks attached to it, but when you are truly unhappy with what you have, then there is nothing much that you can do about it.
What happens with this surgery?
In this surgery, patients are advised to take rest and give their surgery time to recover. When they are absolutely sure that they are not happy with the current nose job, then they can consider going in for Rhinoplasty. Basically, the surgeon will analyze the current condition of the nose and depending on the situation, a solution might be drafter. The nasal septum and other problems might be fixed and any other problems that you need to be aware of will also be tackled.
The surgeon will have a detailed discussion with the patient, requesting them to provide information as well as photographs of noses that they wish to have for themselves. While the surgeon will try their level best to replicate that exact nose, the results might not always be guaranteed. Having realistic expectations is highly recommended with this surgery and one has to be aware of what the outcome of the surgery will be like. Most surgeons will give you a peek at the result of the procedure either on the computer or in some other form in order to avoid repeat sessions of Revision Rhinoplasty.
When should you go for this?
After a successful nose surgery, give some time for the nose to set in and then decide whether or not you would want to have it fixed again. Normal recovery time for the regular Rhinoplasty will be anywhere from six to eight weeks. Following this period, you should decide on your own whether you are satisfied with the procedure or not. Have a talk with the surgeon that performed the first procedure. Don’t expect miracles to happen, as there are restrictions to cosmetic surgeries, beyond which the doctor will not be able to do anything on their own. If it is genuinely the fault of the surgeon, then you might be able to get the Revision Rhinoplasty done for free.
What are the risks you should know of?
Since this is a repeat procedure, you should be aware of all the problems that might crop up during the game. The risks are more or less the same, and you should keep in mind that surgery of any kind will always have these standard risks involved. Beyond a certain point, cosmetic surgeries are not recommended. Additionally, don’t go in for multiple sessions of Revision Rhinoplasty, as this is definitely not recommended.
Should you go to a different surgeon?
Most surgeons that performed the first Rhinoplasty should also be open to the idea of performing a Revision Rhinoplasty if you are truly unhappy about it. But, if the surgery was severely botched up, then you will want to consider going to another surgeon. This is the costlier option, but you can at least be guaranteed of getting a good job as a result of it. In fact, you might really like the fact that at least you look as good as you had hoped and might not be left permanently with a nose that you don’t like.
